Juli Hunter Eco Friendly Style Meet the Team
I have always been a creative type, I have been making wearables since I was a small child. I studied fashion and then went on to work for a clothing designer in Wellington NZ (Starfish) before traveling for a few years. On my return to New Zealand I moved to Auckland and started the Juli Hunter brand in 2000. After having my daughter in 2005, I moved to a rural lifestyle property, and changed my business to be less about fashion, and more about craft. I then moved back to my home town Wellington and started working in film. I have continued creating my wearables for individuals along side my other work.
I call myself a hunter and collector of all things beautiful. I'm always searching for new fabrics, buttons and household linens etc, in garage sales and second hand shops, to make them into beautiful, new, eco friendly things to wear or to have in the home.
I happily work from my studio in the Waikanae village on the Kapiti Coast of Wellington New Zealand, using fabrics & haberdashery sourced & often made in New Zealand. I take great pride in creating beautiful and durable items made to the highest possible standard. I love to upcycle clothing, recycle fabrics and make them into new, beautiful and useful things while minimising waste. I have based my lifestyle and business around reusing and recycling as much as possible.
I Love fitting people into their clothes & making new clothing that fit our clients to perfection. We are open to making almost anything out of fabric, so please don't hesitate in contacting us with any queries!
With a mother who was a dress-maker and a grandmother who was a tailor, one could say Marion is continuing a family tradition. Originally from Wellington, at the age of just 15 she began a coveted apprenticeship with renown Wellington fashion designer Ashley Fogel at Ninon Modes. Marion eventually moved on to work for Roland Wimmers followed by work with Uta Griffon before deciding to work from home while raising her family.
Marion joined team at in early 2016. Coming from an established life-long passion for supporting made-in-New Zealand designs and clothing, Marion’s approach blends seamlessly with the eco-friendly philosophy here at Juli Hunter's!
