June 2021 Newsletter: Oven Cloths, Merino Gloves, and Slow Fashion

At Juli Hunter Eco Friendly Style, we are passionate about moving away from the traditional take-make-use-waste way of thinking about products. We consistently strive to find new uses for materials that would normally be sent to landfill. We see the value and find treasure in what others see as waste. This value not only benefits the environment but our customers as well. By reusing and upcycling materials, we create bespoke and sustainable products that are also affordable. We also sell pre-loved items in our store, giving you the opportunity to own beautiful garments without the harmful cost to the environment.

Whether you’re after a beautiful pre-loved piece, a new garment made from upcycled materials, or something bespoke, we would love to help you out. Pop into our store in Mahara Place, Waikanae, to find a sustainable treasure that takes your fancy. If you’re after a particular colour or print combination, we’re happy to tailor something especially for you. Remember to subscribe to our mailing list to keep up to date with our gorgeous new products.

Upcycled denim oven cloths are perfect for winter

With the cooler evenings arriving, many of us are craving warm and hearty casseroles, bread, and baking fresh from the oven. If your oven mitt has seen better days or is no longer keeping your hands protected, then now is the perfect time to grab one of our sustainably made oven cloths. These stylish statement pieces are made from upcycling jeans, which means that each cloth is unique and produced with minimal waste. The interior is made from recycled wool blankets, thus saving them from landfill. Not only do our oven cloths protect your hands from the heat, but these are a practical investment that you can enjoy for many winters to come.

Look fashionable and stay warm with merino gloves

It’s hard enough to get out of bed on chilly mornings, but especially so when your hands feel numb and icy. Forget chunky gloves that make it difficult to do anything. Our merino gloves are perfect whether you’re commuting to work, heading on a walk, or just hanging the washing out. They can be worn either scrunched around your wrist or pulled up for extra warmth. There are a variety of colours to choose from including cream, turquoise, black, dark navy, and red.

Taking a SLOW approach to fashion

Sustainability is on the way in! Contrary to current fast fashion trends, sustainable fashion is gentle on the environment and kind to your wallet. However, it can feel overwhelming to know where to start if you’re choosing a sustainable approach. This is where the SLOW principles of Slow, Local, Organic, and Whole come in. A SLOW approach to fashion involves using what’s already in your wardrobe, making thoughtful purchases, opting for pre-loved items, and choosing locally made garments. We hold these values close to our heart here at Juli Hunter Eco Friendly Style, and we love helping other people discover how amazing sustainable fashion can be too.

For example, here is the lovely Zelda sporting some of our latest recycled garments! A dark grey Country Road 100% wool jacket (size small, $69), a vibrant red DeNada 43% merino dress (NZ made, size 10, $49), and a fantastic grey Voon dress (NZ made, size 10, $59). To take a closer look at any of these pieces or to browse the racks for more hidden gems, come visit us at Mahara Place, Waikanae.

Stay warm, sustainable, and beautiful this winter!
